* The Netherlands has the highest population density (493 inhabitants per square km - water excluded) of any European country with over 1 million inhabitants. Worldwide, only Bangladesh and Taiwan, among major countries, have a higher density of population.

* The 'Netherlands' mean "Low Country" in Dutch. About half of its surface area is less than 1 metre above sea level. Its highest point is 321 metres (1,053 ft) above sea level.

* Dutch people are the tallest in the world, with an average height of 184 cm for men and 170 cm for women.

* A 2007 UNICEF report on child well-being in rich countries ranked the Netherlands as the best country for children to live.

* Dutch people have the lowest incidence of lactose intolerance of any country - only 1%.

* The village of Giethoorn, in the province of Overijssel, does not have any roads. All transport is done by water over one of the many canals. It is known as the "Venice of the Netherlands".

Something has to know for living in the Netherlands

- In the Netherlands, there are lots of bikes on the road, but there also have road only for walking, if you are biking there, you will get fine (60euro-100euro)from police.
- You always have to take your resident permit card (or passport) with you when you go out, police has right to ask you to show your card, if you don’t have it, you will get fine (60euro-100euro).
- It is safe to go out in the Netherlands, but don’t go to coffee shop, coffee shop in the Netherlands is not a place to drink coffee, that is the place for hemp, drugs.
- Don’t throw things on the road, you can find dustbin easily on the road.
- Always wait in line when you are doing something in the public place.
- Go to toilet, it always has to pay around 50 cent, so please prepare some cent when you go out.
- Please write the address when are you living in the paper, and put it in your purse, in case you lost your way home.
- Dutch people are friendly, if you loss your way home, please ask them for the direction, you will help you.
- Basis English is really needed in the Netherlands, so if your English is not good enough, please always take a dictionary with you.

Something you can bring with you when you come to the Netherlands

- Sunglasses, it is expensive here
- Changer, we use different connector plug here
- Clothes, you can take one or two warm feather coats with you, for summer, you don’t have to take many, because we have sales season, you can buy it cheap.

Sales season in the Netherlands

It always has sales in the Netherlands, but for big sale, it around Christmas and after new year, summer sales is around august and September, so enjoy, you will get lots of cheap clothes from shop, like 5 euro, 10 euro per piece.

Food

- Dutch people eat lots of bread, it is safe time to make it, so if you don’t like to eat bread, please think again, are you sure to come over?
- Dutch kitchen is not good for making Chinese food, and Dutch people are not use to smell strong fire taste in the house, so please make sure the window is open when you are cooking, of course, it depend what kind of people you are living with.
- It always has Chinese supermarket ( Asia supermarket) in the city, you also can find same kind of food from famous supermarket AH.
