Aupair helped me grow! Hi everybody! I’m Lin and I want to tell all of you good news: I successfully matched with a family in California. Many of my friends known that I wanted to go to there. Now I want to announce: California, I’m coming!
From the day that I have made a decision ti be an aupair in America to today, it was a hard-working seven months. I refreshed my inbox every day, waiting for a family to contact me. After a week, I received an email from my first family, from Campbell, California. The first email from the family didn't have their family profile, but just dozens of questions for me to answer. I spent 12 hours replying to the first email. The second day the family thanked me for replying very quickly and invited me to an interview on Skype. I remember during the first video call, I was so nervous that I knew their Aupair's name , but still asked, "Anna, What's your name? On that day, the whole family: Dad, mom, two kids, Aupair, and their dog, appeared in the video. I sang a song for Maddy and she also sang a song to me. Having a call with them made me believe that this is a very warm family. I interacted very well with the kids, so the family gave me another opportunity to videocall a second time and gave me their family profile. At that time, it was the Spring Festival and the family seemed very busy with their work. Although they didn't reply to my mails, I still sent messages blessing them for the holidays. Two weeks later, the family and I had our video call. In the call, the father was holding a piece of paper that held many questions. He asked me these questions as if I was taking an exam. Unfortunately, I didn't answer them very well. After the call had ended, I re-wrote all the questions and sent it to the mother, Julisa, after answering them again. She said that she would give me an answer in a week. I noticed that this family is very strict about choosing an aupair because the mom and dad are busy at work everyday, and want to find an Aupair with great child-experience and have no problem with communication.
It was in that same week when I luckily received contact from the second family. They had sent me their Family profile and warm greetings. I opened their Family Profile and carefully read it several times. I found that the host mom, dad, the children, and I share lots of fun hobbies which got me very excited. I instantly replied to the family's e-mails and agreed to videocall together. Because I had experience with the first family,I was able to prepare efficiently for the interview with the Dwight family. I noticed that situations are different for each family, and Dwight family (second family) made me particularly comfortable. Host mom (Claudia) and dad (Dwight)asked me if I had any questions to ask about their family. The host mom was sitting on a sofa at a distance while Dwight, Esme, and Evie were sitting in front of the video. Evie and I shared paintings and had a very happy chat. During the first call, the network wasn't good and had to recall three times, but that didn't affect our mood. The family sent me a message saying that they want to continue talking next week at about 6a.m. on Sunday. On the day before our call, I had a sleepless night because I was afraid of missing the Interview. I got up at 5:00am to get ready, but heard no news from the family. I thought the family had forgotten about me and the call. However, just in time, the family sent me a message that Evie had just waken up and may need to wait a few minutes. After a while, Dwight said that Esme would like to talk to me. On the video, he put Esme in a chair in front of me. I thought Dwight would ask me lots of questions, but there were no questions. One thing that I remember most was when he told Esme to talk to Lin. I asked Esme, "Do you remember me?" Dwight said she shouldn't remember because she had talked with lots of other Aupairs over the last week. However, Dwight was surprised when Evie said that she does remember me. I prepared oil paintings for them and they enjoyed it. In the two videocalls, Evie asked her father if I had long hair. I could tell that she likes long hair and so, I told her that I can braid her hair like a princess. When our call was coming to an end, they told me that they love me and gave goodbye kisses before they hung up. After talking with them, I really wanted to become a member of their family. After a long wait of three days after the video, I received a confirmation letter from the family saying that they want me to join their family. I was able to find a favorable family in just one and a half months.
So lucky, thank God!
Thank you Ellen, Lina, Grace,Eric and all my friends that has helped me. I believe I will become an excellent person. Everybody! Hope to see you in America!
